Last week I attended the Breaking the News exhibition at the British Library. More of that soon — once I’ve reviewed it for Schools Week.

Anyway, one of the exhibits was a picture of James Gilray’s famous political cartoon depicting the British and the French carving up the world:

Next to it was a spoof of the cartoon by Steve Bell:

Afterwards I was browsing in Smiths in Liverpool Street station to see if there was a magazine I neither needed nor had time to read, and I espied this:

So it was a Gilray and plum pie kind of day! It just goes to show what an iconic image the original was.
